I think I've been a little deluded lately. It appears that the US has 21 of the 33 EU countries behind it in this invasion (heard this morning on Keller at Large). I do feel better about that, it helps to think we're not so bull-headed as to go it completely alone. Still, the failure of the UNSC and our role in bringing that about is very sad. Of course, the blame isn't all ours, we have France to thank for helping to make it it a useless entity.
Posted by greg at March 19, 2003 09:33 AMNot that I'm counting, but it'd be interesting to see how much $$ or other things we're promising to the countries on our side. The Administration apparently was paying people off for support.
That said, as dumb as Bush was for his 'war at all costs' mentality, it was just as destructive as France and Germany's 'Peace regardless of anything' stance.
Bush should have given inspections more time, and the UNSC should have been willing to set a firm deadline with force as the result if the deadline wasn't met.
The war will go very well for us, I'm pretty sure. It's the international fall-out that'd a larger concern at this point. (And the terrorism that will naturally follow).
