The real Hannibal Lector

A little sleuthing finds the 'truth' behind the movies "Psycho", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", and "Silence of the Lambs":

[ BBC - Crime Case Closed - Ed Gein ]

When Arthur Schley arrived at a Wisconsin farmhouse on the evening of 17 November 1957 he was in for a very nasty surprise...

Mr Schley, a sheriff from the nearby town of Plainfield, was investigating the disappearance of 58-year-old shopkeeper Bernice Worden. Evidence from her store - a receipt found on the floor near a trail of blood and a missing cash till - had led him to the farmhouse.

I spent some time in LaCrosse Wisconsin, while in the USMC, for cold weather training. Never knew anything about this guy though!

I don't know that there is a real person behind the movie figure of Hannibal Lector. Ed Gein is the inspiration behind the other killer in the move, Silence of the Lambs - the one that was keeping the girl in his basement. Jeffrey Dahmer seems like the obvious choice as the template for Hannibal, but I couldn't be of more help than that.

Andrei Chikatilo, thats the real Hannibal Lector

I saw a Donald Sutherland movie about that guy, Citizen X. It was incredibly scary. Andrei, as far as I recall, didn't eat his victims though. He sure could have been inspiration though.

I don't think that you and the many others should have websites like the ones that you have. It is horrible enough to have such crimes happe, but then to display them on the news, well that is just unhumane.

Sorry, Begil, but as they saying goes, those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Knowledge is power, and knowing about horrific deeds from the past helps others to prevent them from happening again. We can watch for signs, react more quickly, whatever. If we hide our dark sides in the closet them we only give those who like to lurk in the shadows a chance to continue doing so.

Are the movies scilence of the lambs, red dragon, and hannibal based on a real person, and a real well cannible? Just cirous.

Hannibal Lector is a genius. The way he discoveries the path into the human brain and taunts with it is simply amazing. He is the smartest person that i know of with the acception of Jeffey Dahmer. I am very happy that i have the prilage of his knowings. I just wish i could find a picture of the real him. The only ones they have are of Anthony Hopkins. He is wonderful.

Is the poster Jackie Watkins really as stupid as (s)he sounds?
1/ H. Lector is a fictional character-a piece of art from a talanted writer.
2/ J. Dahmer was no genius.
3/ "prilage of his knowings" ?
4/ Please find better heroes you dimwit.

Although Lecter is a fictional character, there is a serial killer that exhibits much of the same traits as him. ALBERT FISH is the most likened serial killer to Hannibal Lector. It's been said that he is/was the real Lecter. He killed people and ate them. He was a very polite and educated man. He came off as a well mannered, decent old man, never rude and always courtous (less for when he was eating people). No one would have suspected him to be a murderer.
Lector came from the mind of a brilliant writer but, as most writers take at least some aspects from real life, I suspect that A. Fish was used as a model for Lecter, at least partly.

Myself: No need to be rude. Jackie asked a question that she was curious about. She wasn't mean to anyone. At least have the courtesy to show her the same respect.

to the user 'myself'

please explain why you decided to use the words "stupid" and "dimwit" when describing the user 'jackie'

i dont see anyplace in this forum where anyone directly or indirectly attacks your beliefs, or attempts to insult your intelligence. what i dont understand is why you felt the need to interact negatively. it seems more likely that you might have achieved an equivalent such satisfaction in that you may have been able to help further another persons knowledge whereby increasing their self esteem/confidence as opposed to an attempt to beguile another of their hard-earned self-worth. if you decide to respond to this, i beg that you reply with sincerety. im sure everyone will respect and admire you for that.

respectfully

About your question, Why do serial killers do what they do...
Honestly, it is not known... But every person has a different reason...
The corruption of the mind starts at a younge age... rage and filth seeps into their blood and intoxicates there body with, anger, hate, perversion... things that no being should feel....

I think the real question to be asking, as opposed to, WHY do they do it...
should be....
can you spot one, before they kill?

Anyone can drop me an e-mail sometime
Just a girl who lives in PA...
